Azltán is the ancestral home of the Aztec people. Many believe it be located in the southwest of the Untied States. According to the legend tribes migrated south and the Mexica made present-day Mexico City their homeland.
This work depicts my sister as Chimalma the woman spirit who led the migration from Azltán. Tiled images next to her are pictures of the border from the Mexican side looking towards the United States. This imposing structure is what many Latino migrants face and Mexicanos have to live next too. These landscapes depict the contemporary Sacred Gardens of Azltán.
