The following images are part of a photography journal that was developed in partnership with youth who participated in CASA de Maryland's 2015 summer Leadership Program. The project highlights the visions we have of our communities and what we find beautiful about our neighbors, neighborhoods, our families, our languages, and our cultures.
Sharing our own narratives and experiences is a first step in embracing our identities, in reclaiming our language and heritage as latinos and immigrants, and in creating empathy and understanding with other cultures.
There is something urgent we want to communicate to a larger audience. This book, using photography to show our stories, conveys our message: the beauty of our people and our culture is all around us.
